This research investigates the role of project commitment in the context of information systems security. In doing so, the research adopts a psychological point of view by exploring and discussing the concept of project commitment in setting information security goals. Information security can be viewed as the efficient control of uncertainty arising from malicious acts intended to exploit valuable assets, and in the context of information systems the valuable assets under consideration are data. Data were collected by using an interpretive approach through in-depth interviews and observation within a single case study in Greece. The contribution of this research to interpretive information-systems consists of the study of project commitment and goal theory in an information security-management context, and its grounding within an interpretive epistemology. Ultimately, this research promotes an interdisciplinary and interorganizational theory that fosters a dialogue transcending industry-specific contexts and explores different management practices that can improve security project commitment and management in its real life context.

How do managers perceive and use media? Media richness theory (MRT) appears to provide persuasive answers to this, but does it work when electronic media is used? Surveys of Japanese managers showed that the perceptions of media, including electronic media, did not contradict MRT. But, even so, the use of rich media was found to be influenced more strongly by whether the media was traditional or electronic, with respect to organizational interpretation of its environment. The perception and use of electronic media may not correspond, though they have generally been assumed to do so.

Irony is an effective means of dealing with controversy in organizations, but there is a paucity of knowledge of the various ways in which irony helps managers to do so without necessarily ‘solving’ those issues. By drawing on discursive incongruity theory, we examine the use of irony when managers are confronted with controversial issues in a multinational company. As a result, we identify and elaborate on four distinctively different pathways of how irony helps participants to move on: ‘acquiescing’ (framing understanding as having no alternative because of environmental constraints), ‘empowering’ (synthesizing a view through broad inputs from different individuals), ‘channelling’ (subsuming other interpretations under a single and often dominant view) and ‘dismissing’ (rejecting alternative interpretations and often reinforcing the status quo). On this basis, we develop a theoretical model that elucidates the process dynamics in dealing with and moving on with controversial issues and elaborates the specific characteristics of each of these four pathways. Our analysis also leads to a fuller understanding of the discursive underpinnings and intersubjective dynamics in irony use in organizations.

The paper proposes workplace flexibility as enabler of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) with the help of six workplace flexibility dimensions. The study is based upon interaction with 25 HR experts in two phases and uses Total interpretive Structural Modelling to develop workplace flexibility framework. Further, the driver-dependence matrix is used to classify the enablers into four categories: autonomous, drivers, linkages and dependents to establish enablers' influence on OCB. The proposed workplace flexibility framework will give insight to both management and employees into ways of advancing the OCB behaviors. Other Implications and future directions are also discussed.

This paper explores the role of internal communication in one under-researched form of organizational crisis, insider threat - threat to an organization, its people or resources, from those who have legitimate access. In this case study, we examine a high security organization, drawing from in-depth interviews with management and employees concerning the organizational context and a real-life incident of insider threat. We identify the importance of three communication flows (top-down, bottom-up, and lateral) in explaining, and in this case, enabling, insider threat. Derived from this analysis, we draw implications for communication and security scholars, as well as practitioners, concerning: the impact of unintentional communication, the consequences of selective silence and the divergence in levels of shared understanding of security among different groups within an organization.
